Is Your “Me” Interfering With “Them?”
A new day dawns and offers a freshness…a candid beginning…a simple rejoice.
The blessings given therein are beautiful and abundant. There eyes aglow, there laughter tickling, there little feet stomping down the hallway. Life is good for them, and I am heart-filled to be the one in which they find their care. My children – my family, they are a gift.
But sometimes, I forget…sometimes I have to remind myself to stop my self-flesh from craving more of the me that interferes with the them. When I remember, I get the good more; more simple, more joy, more rest, more peace, more present.

This is EXACTLY why I write at 4 in the morning when everyone is still asleep :-) One of the biggest sins I committed in my past was having an attitude that my family was an inconvenience- that my needs, my pain, my desires were far more important in our household then the love and care of their souls.
Thank God, for God! Every moment I thank Him not just for the restoration of my soul and my marriage, but the restoration of my family and my relationship with my children. It is so easy to get caught up in our own pursuits, whether it is running from a troubled childhood, getting sucked in to the validation of an important career, or the pursuit of a God-given gift.
The most important things that have kept me grounded are really things you wrote about much more eloquently in past posts…that my first and foremost “ministry” is that of a helper to my husband and the second is as a discipler to my children.
Everything else comes after that.

Jess – I read to them out of my NASB bible and their Read – N – Grow Picture Bible. We also do devotions from Little Visits With God by Allan Hart Jahsmann (I think it’s from the 50’s!). I teach them catechism by having them listen to the fantastic CD series, Songs for Saplings – Questions & Answers. :)
How interesting you should write about this. Yesterday evening I was busy tip-tapping away at the computer when my husband and daughters decided they wanted to play a game. When the girls were young we made it a point to have a “family night”. Now they are teenagers and rarely interested. With joy they picked a game and then asked if I wanted to play. For the briefest of moments I wanted to say “no”. I was busy. I wanted to finish my writing. I was answering emails. However, there was a tiny prick in my spirit. Stopping what I was doing I joined them at the dinner table and we spent the next hour or so laughing and being together…making new memories. Time much better spent.

I feel extremely blessed to have a husband who keeps me grounded in this area. I tend to overcommit myself…over please…and my family has suffered in the past. My husband has to be pressured to do something for himself where I have had to scale down to once a week. He reminds me when I might be going overboard and I listen. The truth is…I am happier than I have ever been. I thank God for my husband!

I am currently in the first trimester of my fifth pregnancy, and we have been told every week to expect (my 4th) miscarriage any day. And yet the baby’s heart is still beating and he is still growing! So we are rejoicing in the little things and big miracles today. :)
And somehow this post of yours reminded me that even this 6mm child of mine needs my time, devotion, dedication, love, prayers — just as much as my toddler does!
So thank you for the ever-timely reminder as I continue on bedrest and invest myself fully in loving this child who bears God’s image, and sacrifice not only my body but also my time and emotions.

This is really a God-thing. I love -(well, it’s hard to love it)I’m grateful for how he uses specific words, friends,and even blog posts to minister to our souls and guide us in the upward and onward of “our calling”. Oh, how I forget so quickly.

i think i read it at above rubies- forget the unimportant importants, and focus on the important importants- our families. it really hit me and your post reminded me- dishes, laundry, cleaning- it CAN wait. our little ones pulling at our aprons, trying to show US something important to them, their little faces so filled with HIS love- that can NOT wait.
