Breaking Down Titus 2:3-5

I just can’t help myself…this space is where I process life.
I’m taking a journey through Titus 2: 3-5 to discover its richness. I hope you’ll join me.
Tomorrow, however, I have a very special guest post from a friend of mine on living small. I think you will be greatly inspired by it.
“Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
Titus 2:3-5

What awesome verses! We are considering starting a Stitchin’ Kitchen ministry at our church, which is based on these verses! Older ladies in the church will be teaching our young ladies (girls, teens, young adults) how to cook, sew, and other homemaking skills that are so rare in this generation. Divided families separate the young from the old these days, and our younger generation is missing out on the rich lessons of the more experienced and wise women. I look forward to your writings on Titus!

I am almost (almost) to the point where I hate that passage. So many people want to take a few little words and use them to define women everywhere. When I was younger, I didn’t like that God made me a girl. But I learned to like and embrace it. But now I find myself turning the other way again….
Oooh, ‘Stitchin’ Kitchen’ is EXACTLY what I want to do at our church. I’ve been wondering how I could actually get the older ladies teaching us youngin’s and that’s perfect! Maybe we’ll incorporate that into our WMU. :)
Nurse Bee – I can relate to your feelings…I have felt those things many times. I have learned to truly find my value by letting God *alone* tell me who I am and letting Him define me and give me an identity. If He *is* good, then the picture that He has laid out for a woman is also good. Because many women have been hurt and/or abused by sinful people using the good that God offers, many turn away completely from His beautiful and life-giving truths. I hope one day you and I can really have a good discussion on these things…perhaps through this series…because not only do I think it is important, but I sincerely care about your viewpoint, as you are certainly not a minority in your feelings!

Great passage of Scripture that has so often been twisted and misused it does require taking a deeper look at. Thanks – it’s good to do this. We just read through this verse in our Bible study and started discussing how it’s been twisted and what Scripture says about women and their role in marriage & the home. GOOD stuff!

Just started reading your blog…I am looking forward to your posts on Titus 2:3-5. I went through a wonderful 6-week study called Apples of Gold about a year and a half ago and learned so much from the older women (mentors) who led it! They’ve been leading this study for almost 5 years now and so many younger women have been blessed by these 4 women because they have taken their calling to teach and encourage.
