{My Very Late} 12 New Things Post – Disaster Hair Cut (LINK-UP!)

What is 12 New Things? Find out here!

Friends, this says it all…

Oh Lord, help me…

My poor son.

Let me just say, FAIL.

I tried to give my son a fade hair cut.  Um, yea.

Heh.

Good thing he is super handsome.

And sweet.

Or we’d be in trouble.

Well, we all know that my new thing for September (learning how to cut my son’s hair) is a fail (so far – I won’t give up…I don’t think…maybe…).  Link up YOUR new thing.  Here’s hoping you did better than me! (Yes, I know I was going to learn how to change a tire, but his hair seemed so much more important!)

;-) He _is_ very cute, in spite of the haircut…my sister, said she uses the Wahl trimmer…although, since she isn't looking over my shoulder now (she's at my house with her kiddos), I will say, *whispering* sometimes her trims are less then perfect! ;-)

  3. That is the cutest *fail* ever Sarah Mae!! I attempted that when my son was young and accepted the fact that I was no good. Turns out that I have a Christian friend who owns a kids' hair salon so I go there. I figure that I'm helping support a Christian family and boosting my local economy at the same time! It just seems like it should be so simple to cut children's hair, doesn't it? :) Thanks for sharing your fail and for letting us link up!

Just clean it up around the edges and it will grow back! Don't give up! You will get used to it for sure and get better each time! I do all of the big boy and little boy haircuts around here and have been for the last 7 years or more! With scissors no less!

  6. Too funny! I cut my boys' hair – but I don't try anything fancy. Clippers with a #3 blade, all over. I'm not brave enough to ess with scissors or varying lengths of hair!

Oh you poor thing!! I use the clippers on my boys, LOL.

BUT, I may join you on one of your "things". Just got my hair cut (3 inches off bottom) and styled (long layers and a nice face frame), so I'm thinking of joining you to style everyday and learn new ways of doing it! :)

I cut my sons hair a few times before I got good at it. Just keep it up. I also use the clippers. Not a buzz but I do keep it short.

  9. Suzy says:

Practice makes perfect! I've been cutting my hubby's hair for 13 years now…the beginning was rough but we've got it down now…now I'm practicing on my 4 kiddo's.

  10. Erin says:

He is so adorable, Sarah Mae!! I uh…"cut" our sons hair twice. Let's just say I'm a slow learner. He had a full head of curls one minute and the next he looked like he was ready for boot camp. Now I leave it to the professionals. :)

Oh, Sarah Mae! I'm seriously trying not to laugh, but it's just too hard! It's really cute and really hilarious. Hey, you tried, right? You've got so many other talents though, don't sweat it. It'll grow back!

That's when you just buzz it! I cut my son's hair for the 4th (?) time last week and I'm still not confident about doing it! My saving grace is that he's got a curly mop on the top of his head for hair, so my mistakes are hidden!

Oh he is so cute! I've thought about trying that out… I probably would have TOTALLY wrecked my kid's hair way worse than yours :-)

    LOL

Good thing it grows back, right?

Yep, I tried that years ago, and well, let's just say I have NEVER repeated!! I definitely pay the $11 to have a professional do it. :) (Especially now that my boys are a bit older!)

  17. Mel says:

Hey at least you're not giving up.:) He is still very handsome. When I first started cutting my sons' hair, I would seriously watch their hairdresser (she probably thought I was stalking her as she cut their hair, or she thought I was one crazy mom)….but anyway, also I went on Youtube to see if I could find videos to help me learn how, and I found this one….it's been very helpful, so thought I might share, just in case it might help you too… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1VO4vKpm9k” rel=”nofollow”>.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1VO4vKpm9k. I do things a bit differently now, but this really helped. there's a ton of other great videos too….

Don't feel bad, though; we've all been there.:)

  18. I have six boys and my husband to practice on. For almost 13 years now. I use clippers – wouldn't dare to try it with scissors. Maybe you can imagine why ;-)

My not-so-new "thing" failed completely (and is definitely not cute). Maybe the next will be better…

    Thanks for hosting!

  20. Mary Beth says:

Your little guy does look super handsome.

As a woman who has experience with this *3 boys, clippers, scissors, little cash* I have found that hair gel works wonders. : )

  21. Don't give up! Stick a little gel in his hair and it's fine!!! :-) I cut my sons hair too – I use number 3,4, and 7 on the clippers – 7 for the top to keep it long, 4 around the back and some of the side and 3 for the edges and I must admit I have to use scissors too to get it just right. My poor son HATES it and cries! Once I cut his ear with the scissors – worst mommy of the year award right here! So now he is SO scared of me :-( I recently took him to get his hair cut at the $9 place and he sat much better for them lol! But this Sunday before church I was back at it again trimming with the scissors – I feel like I trim it ALL the time – it grows like a weed! Don't give up – you'll get it right and it's hard with little ones to get them to sit still etc.

Thanks for sharing tho – you made me smile :-)!!! Being a mom is harder than it looks!!! Who knew right? (I hate cutting finger nails too – blak! And those grow like weeds too go figure!)

    Love ya,

I will not be "linking up" because my blog is now private, just for friends and family. But, if I may, I will "link up" via the comments section each month :)

My "thing" for this month was to learn to wake up with the first blare of the alarm clock. Verdict: still working on it ;P

  23. Lisa says:

Cutting hair takes a while to learn but you will get it. I went to cosmetology school and cut hair in a childerns salon for two years. So, I can give you a few tips:

    - clippers are the easier thing to use on boys

    - I never cut with clippers without a guard (they have ones of all different sizes).

    - and at the childrens salon we always put on the kids favorite cartoon before cutting their hair.

If you need more help, please feel free to ask! love ya, Lisa

  24. Amanda says:

I honestly cannot stop laughing and now i know for sure i do not want to attempt to cut Los hair anytime soon haha… Cade was prolly disapointed he had to get a hair cut cus he told me he wanted to let his hair grow to the size of a fro haha!

  25. Julianne says:

Oh Sarah Mae, this one is sooooo much better than the first (and last) haircut I ever gave my first son. But I was so very foolish and thought I'd give him a haircut the day before I was taking him to get his picture taken (Very DUMB idea!). It was so bad that I ended up giving him a buzz cut and when my DH walked in he said (very kindly), "perhaps I should start giving the boys haircuts", and so that was my only haircut I ever gave him.

    Ah, the memories :)

  26. Lindsey says:

Hmmmm…I linked but now looking back, I think one of my 12 new things should be "learning to link my blog" :( :) Don't worry about anything, your boy is a super cutie!!
