Don’t Always Believe What You’re Told

Today is her birthday.

Two years ago she was supposed to be dead.

That’s what they said.

Two months was the guess, but could be two years…doubtful. “She has no working liver left.”

Cirrhosis of the liver…fatal.

She was yellow and swollen.  She looked nine months pregnant (from asites). I flew out to be with her for what were supposed to be her final days.

We made all the preparations, and then we prayed and waited.

Miracles occurred.

She moved in with us and is with us still.  Still.

Alive.

Living.

Two years later.

It hasn’t been easy growing into new skin, for her or for myself, but I am learning to love her.

And she’s always wanted to be loved.

It is indeed a day to celebrate.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…”  Joel 2:25

He is mighty to save.

  17. Sharon says:

I love this story. It is so much like my own with my sister. She was dying on hospice in 2006 weighing only 91 pounds with end stage liver disease and hepatitis. Today she is miraculously well and her liver score which was once 800… is now about 20… and her mind is coming back and she is actually fun to be with. She is different… the disease of alcoholism wore her body down but she is alive. The process of getting to know her sober is very new and different for us. God is a God of new beginnings.

Thank you for the encouraging note I am glad you have your mom again. HOW awesome for you both.

  23. Mindi says:

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…” Joel 2:25

This scripture keeps being repeated to me, in books, in sermons on the radio. God is speaking into my heart. Yet is so good to hear it again.

I don't know how many years my father would have considered him self an alcoholic, but he has been sober now since the Spring of 1997. (Going into rehab after being given months to live as well…)My husband of 5 1/2 years was teetering on the edge of addiction when we married and has since fallen into that pit. And the swarming locusts have come, descending and covering us in darkness.

I thank God for women like you, who speak Truth and keep pointing us to the Light.
