The One True Thing

“…Only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42

One thing.

Where do we find Him?

In a living book…so sharp…

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

He is there…

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

So I cling to the only true thing.

Jesus Christ, the very Word of God.

And I trust His Words because I trust Him.

I’m searching and praying and listening and trusting…sitting at His feet, hanging on to every Word…

“…Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said.”  Luke 10:39

  1. Traci says:

    Beautiful TRUTH! Amen. <3 you.

  2. Amen Sista! I was up at 6am soaking in his good word and then on my knees in prayer (and then emailing the GMG's :-). I need to be at his feet! I can't do this thing we call life alone.

I read in John chapter 2 and pondered how Jesus has taken the water I've put into my marriage and turned it into sweet wine. He has taken the water that I have put into parenting and turned it into wine. I see his miraculous work in your life too – turning your offering of water into wine!

Keep serving him – stay in the word – stay on your knees!

    Your friend,

I love Courtney's comment, too … what a great way to look at it!

    no better place to be

  5. Oh Sarah! You are such a blessing to me this morning. Isn't God amazing!!! I have spent so many incredible times sitting at His feet over the last six weeks as I prayed and bathed in His Word as we were discerning so many things in challenges that we have been facing. It is so awe inspiring when, even when the situation is still with us, I feel so much more refreshed and confident in how to deal with things. If I don't have that time everyday life just isn't as beautiful…know what I mean?

  6. It penetrates, soaks (fluid) and yet divides (sharp, decided, firm). Just when we think we know Him…

  7. Sherry says:

God's Word is so wonderful! I can't imagine not having it.

  8. lisa says:

A little bit ago I wrote a post on this scripture with a slightly different twist. You can read it here:…

Thanks for sharing your journey. Keep seeking and soaking in Him!

  9. Jennifer says:

I have read your blog for some time now, but have not commented on anything until now. I have been following your latest posts and the discussions that have followed and just wanted you to know that you have been on my mind and in my prayers. I am praying that you will continue to seek Him and that you would not be discouraged. I am blessed by your humility and the heart for Him that is so evidently communicated through your writing. The things that you blog about are difficult for us to hear, process and respond to and often our first inclination is defensiveness. I have found myself over the last few years to have thought on many of the same things and have come to many of the same conclusions. These conclusions have come through much wrestling, praying and reading. Thankfully, the Lord knows our heart and that is truly the most important thing in our decision making concerning each and every decision we make in our lives. What is our motivation and do the prayers that we pray line up with biblical principles? Do the decisions we make line up with biblical principles that have been discovered through much prayer and study? Hopefully these questions will make us each pause and will encourage all out there who are trying to determine what the Lord and His Word have to say concerning our roles in relationship to Him, our families and the world around us. Know that you are being lifted up in prayer, Sarah Mae, and I will look forward to meeting you at Relevant.

  10. Favor says:

That is a beautiful post! That’s where I’ve been too – deep in God’s Word. I can’t imagine my life without God guide me.

  11. Heathahlee says:

I love this post. I am praying for a deep love of God’s Word like I’ve never had before.

  12. Laura says:

This post was such a blessing to me! My teenage son, who knows and loves God, has lost confidence in His Word. He says he doesn't understand how we can know for sure it is God's word. For me it is so easy and obvious. I'm so concerned, how can I help him?
