My Thousand Mile Journey
March 3rd, 2010
“A glass can only spill what it contains.”
It feels like a thousand miles to get from self heart disease to torn veil cross God joy.
My disease infects my marriage, my mothering, my home, and my (lack of) hospitality. It bleeds in my mind as my thoughts settle on untruths. I sit comfortable. I don’t wash anyone’s feet.
I need to push myself past the veil and into Him, but the veil of my heart must first be ripped in half, because my self heart disease is a killer.
“There must be a work of God in destruction before we are free. We must invite the cross to do its deadly work within us…In human experience that veil is made of living spiritual tissue; it is composed of the sentient, quivering stuff of which our would beings consist, and to touch it is to touch us where we feel pain…To rip through the dear and tender stuff of which life is made can never be anything but deeply painful. Yet that is what the cross did to Jesus and it is what the cross would do to every man to set him free…{God must do this}…the cross is rough and it is deadly, but it is effective. It does not keep its victim hanging there forever. There comes a moment when its work is finished and the suffering victim dies. After that is resurrection glory and power, and the pain is forgotten for joy that the veil is taken away and we have entered into actual spiritual experience the presences of the living God.” A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God
I need Him. “Lord please tear the veil in my heart that I may know you and experience you and be satisfied by your presence alone.”
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step.” -Lao-tze

I want to learn about the selfless women who have gone before me in servant-hood and faith, and I want my daughters to know about these women as well as we seek to be selfless servants. The Daughters of His Story paper dolls, created by Emily Rose and Breezy Brookshire (some of my favorite people in the world) are a wonderful resource to have in teaching our daughters. From now through Friday you can get 15% off these paper dolls at my OpenSky store with discount code DOLL15.

“We must be determined and have courage to live in God’s presence…” love me some Tozer!!
One of my all time favorite books Sarah Mae!

Beautiful this morning. Thank you. This Tozer quote reminds me of John 12:24 when Jesus said: “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
When we are willing to die to our self in our marriage, parenting, home and ministry God can use us to produce many seeds. Sarah Mae – God is using you! Keep it up!

I just want to go behind the veil…rip it down and hide under the shadow of His wing. Safety exists where we allow the Cross to do its work.
“death” always stirs a negative image in my mind, but death to self is truly rebirth!!
the pain is forgotten for joy – how beautiful!
thanks!!
Some times I think people believe being a Christian is easy, but the truth is that it’s often painful and difficult. We are dying to self, becoming a new creation. A beautiful post and reminder.
Kristine McGuire´s last blog post … Transforming Power
Sarah Mae, I’m not sure why, or if I’m the only one this is happening to, but for a few weeks now I haven’t been able to fully read your posts because your header/banner shows twice (one below the other) and covers the top of your post. Has anyone else noticed this or is it something with my computer?
I miss being able to read your posts. :(
Kathy – Click on “Compatibility View” (an icon right after the URL that looks like a piece of paper ripped in half) and that should fix it immediately. It’s an Internet Explorer (IE) issue.
Beautifully put as always.
Kristen´s last blog post … Not your average snowball…(Wordless Wednesday)
You need to go to kissesfromkatie.blogspot.com if you’ve never visited. I was led to this blog a few days ago and I must say, it has changed my life. I read her first couple of posts and had to go back to the beginning of her posts. I read it like a book. It has brought me to tears every time. A beautiful girl being led by God. Amazing. She is amazing because God is working through her.
There’s a “put off and put on” principle here. The only way to stop focusing on self is to focus on something else – and to love that Something better. Great post.

Unless a seek falls in the ground and dies it cannot live – truly the Christian life is a beautiful paradox. When we embrace the cross we embrace our Christ.
