Did God Really Say…

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say…” Genesis 3:1
That fallen angel whispers those same words to us today, “Did God really say…?” Oh how that wicked spirit wants us to question God-breathed words. How he loves to see us confused and stumbling around the truth.
I heard a great quote about reading the scriptures and it sticks with me every time I search the inspired Word:
“The main things are the plain things and the plain things are the main things.” Alistair Begg
We all come before the scriptures with unconscience judgements and biases in our heart, and it certainly doesn’t help when we have a “crafty” enemy prowling around speaking lies. Today I’m seeking to bend a knee before the throne of grace and with open hands and awe-filled spirit whisper,
“Lord, what do you say?”
My dear friends, will you walk with me in the truth?
“Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23,24

Yes, I will. We are going through a situation where a loved one has fallen completely to this exact ploy of the Enemy, believing that "the Word doesn't really say…" when it completely does. It is the source of such grief! Satan even uses this to make us suddenly doubt what we believe as being wrong, even though the truth is plain. Thanks for pointing this out today. We all need to be on our guard against the Enemy's antics — deception and lies — and steeped in the Word as the method to this spiritual war being waged on our souls!

Amen Sarah Mae! Prowl he does, but the One who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world! (1 John 4:4)
I'm trying so hard to bend my knee every morning, lift my voice in praise, and burying my head in His word so that it will abide in me – especially during the tough times!

All I can say is Amen Sarah Mae! That fallen angel is trying hard with me the past few weeks for sure.

I will indeed. I think the hardest thing for us some times is to go into the word of God without any pre-conceived ideas of what WE want to learn. How much better when we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us.

Very nice post Sarah Mae. That is so true. I use to ask myself that about homeschooling, when I first began.

Great Post Sarah Mae! I often need to refocus my mind and my heart when I go to His Word. It is not easy to clear my mind and really listen to Him and not be deceived by the enemy.

A hiss or a whisper? Timely this week to quietly consider the Lord's true message to our hearts! Thx so much! :)

I will! I so love that God gives us His Word so we can fill our hearts and minds with His truth daily! The enemy definitely tries to distort scripture, too and I am always encouraged that when he pulled that with Jesus, He quoted scripture right back at him. I want to raise my girls to have the truth in their hearts, too!

There are certain parts of Scripture that I just want to ignore. Or at least not apply to every aspect of my life. But as my small group was talking about what God's Word has to say about our media choices last night, I found myself praying that God would show me what He desires of me and make me willing to obey Him whether I want to or not. God is slowly, but surely doing a big work in my heart and life. I am not perfect, but I am on the right track.
Thank you so much for this. I too have a desire to knee at the throne of God and be comforted by his Grace. Satan is very crafty and I have to pray psalm 139:23-24 everyday.

I love this! This has been on my mind so much lately. It seems the more God opens my eyes to his word and not what others say. The more i realize how wrong i have been! Satan is so crafty i wish he would find another hobby for awhile!

Oh yes! Love it! Just wrote as a similar post on What The True Gospel is and how others have traded the Gospel for something that is NO gospel at all. Galatians 1:7 Oh what people will do to appease their itching ears! 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Isn't it amazing that when God speaks, He really speaks? He was just convicting me this morning about this exact subject, and now here I am, reading about it on your blog. This is exactly how I fall into sin. Satan knows my desires and exploits them by whispering in my ear, "did God really say…?" Good thing that God knows my desires too and that He forgives me and blesses me daily! Thanks for the reminder.

Truth, truth!
Satan loves to plant those questioning thoughts into our minds and then outright deny God's spoken word. I sadly have had people argue with me along the "that's what He said, but not what He MEANT" vein. His clear Word must be allowed to speak for itself into our hearts!

I have been there and done that – did that for about 16 years, in fact… Oh how sweet the freedom of surrender and submission to God is… Walking with Him and learning to KNOW His voice, so there can be no questions about "did God really say"

Yep. He's awfully crafty, that serpent.
God speaks. Listening for His voice takes some silence, though, and that tends to be in short supply. May we all quiet our spirits and silence the loud voices of our preconceived notions so that we can listen with honest, open hearts. And may we be willing to continue listening when we're surprised by what He says.
One thing I've learned the hard way is that some of the "truths" that I once held very dear were not actually God's truth. I believed them very strongly; I honestly thought they were God's truth! It's not easy to let go of beloved beliefs, even when you learn they are mistaken.
I thank God that He is faithful to teach us if we are willing to learn.
