Do You Have A Homemaking Intern?

homemaker

Check out ‘Homemaking Internship‘ by Carolyn Mahaney (Girl Talk) – here’s an excerpt:

“God has called us to be the keepers of the home; thus I want to urge you to give careful attention to your education for this profession…Many girls enter marriage and motherhood without a clue as to what’s required, and they quickly fall into despair. We must tell our daughters of the sacrifices that homemaking demands—but also of the unsurpassed rewards it offers…Think of your daughter as your homemaking intern.”

Thanks to Paula and Laura and for introducing me to this great article!

Thats such a great article! I wholeheartedly agree. We start saving for our childrens education the minute they are born and invest into their "career life" but we are forgetting the most important role our children will ever have. Being a Godly wife, mother, husband & father. Our daughter is almost 1 and we are already starting to train her up to be a mom & a wife. Thanks for all the great articles, it fuels my passion even more, and my husband enjoys them too!

I haven't read all of it yet, but so far it is great. How wonderful would it be to start off in a marriage already knowing how to run a household efficiently. Can you imagine?

Not that I have the market on how to raise kids, but I love it that this is a topic. I get so tired of moms who’s kids don’t do ANYTHING around the house. “It’s easier if I just do it, I have redo it anyways…” blah, blah, blah! I want to scream “are you kidding me?”…
Maybe they were convinced this would be easy and are still upset about the fact that it is not!
When I do things around the house,my daughters are right behind me. I have a 3 year old that keeps a tidy room…she knows how to mess it up with the best of them, but can go in and fix it without me following behind me. It took FOREVER to get her to this point,me going in and showing her how to sort and pick up and put things away! but it is so worth it, now I have a 16 month old “in training” and I am remembering all over again how hard it is! Especially since this one is NOTHIGN like me and does not care if things are straight (unlike my slightly ocd 3 year old..lol) anyways, I am just babbling now, can you tell I have had not adult interaction today…. thanks for the post, can’t wait to read more….

Love this article! Thank you so much for addressing this issue. I felt so lost after leaving a career and coming home to raise our daughter and take care of the home. I couldn’t believe how unprepared I was. It’s my deepest desire to train my daughter in how to run a home. I know I need to work on showing her it really is a joy, even when I am struggling with the day to day chores that can get tedious at times. Thanks again Sarah Mae- you rock!

  8. Anna says:

I never thought of it in quite that way, but it is a good way to look at it. I'm trying to teach not just the daily tasks, but the overall management things too. (like planning, organizing, budgeting.) I could cook and do laundry when I was married, but I didn't know how to do many other things. I've learned along the way, but I want to equip my daughter to do those things. Also I want my sons to learn most of the same things, too. They may be single and need to have some of those skills themselves. If they are married, it will be a help to their wives if they can help when needed.

You find the COOLEST stuff, Sarah Mae! Thanks for sharing this. I’m going to print it so I can really read it today. My 4 year old is itching to do more with me, and although I can remember cleaning house with my mom it was so long ago. Learning it is one thing – teaching it (for me at least) is another. I love all this coaching!!!

This article really hits home with me. I have been praying and receiving God's help on becoming a better housewife and mother.

I believe if I would have been raised to understand this roll better my first marriage would not have ended in divorce. My current marriage has had it's ups and downs but over the last year since I've been focusing (and praying) more on my home and husband I can really see a HUGE improvement in our family relationships.

As I continue, my plan is to include my 2 girls and teach them so many of these things I was never taught. Thank you for this timely article.

this is a great excerpt. thank you for sharing. i stumbled upon your site today and it was fun finding this. i don't have kids yet but my mother sure raised me as her homemaking intern! ha! there is always room for improvement with me and i see things that i learned {by watching my parents} that i don't want to repeat. but for the most part i'm thankful she pulled me in as her intern. i wouldn't be who i am today without her love, guidance, encouragement and faith.
