A Woman Who Perseveres

She is tired

but she works anyway

She is grumpy

but she smiles

She is busy

but she stops when she hears,

“look mom! look at me!”

She just wants nap time to be a little longer

but she greets her little ones with dancing eyes

instead of rolling ones.

She doesn’t feel like reading her bible today

good thing He is with her always

she reads it anyway

and it breathes life into her weary bones

it teaches her that to escape is to flee living

and He came to give us life

so even when she wants to escape

just for a day

she perseveres

in love

and she thanks her God

for the ability to live fully

for laughing souls

for a providing man

for warmth

and…

for coffee.

I’m learning, by grace, to become her.

  1. Sarah says:

I need that in vinyl on my wall. Excellent.

  2. Kimba says:

I am printing this off and hanging it somewhere that I see it all the time. For real. I struggle with that eye-rolling part.

  3. Jessica says:

Thank-you! I am not being that woman today–we are homebound (again) due to weather (ice/snow=danger!) and I guess I have been 'pouting' which is a highly unattractive trait in a child let alone a grown woman. I loved the phrase: 'it teaches her that to escape is to flee living' so true yet how often do I believe the lie that if I can just 'escape' all will be well. So thank-you. These words were very appropriately convicting in a comforting sort of way–so I am off to living! I pray the Lord's blessing on you today.

  4. Isabel says:

I wish I was her too! Dancing eyes, and smiling! Thank you Sarah!

  5. Susan says:

Wonderful message. I'm printing it out and hanging this up!

I wish I understood why, but on both my work computer and home computer, your header shows up twice. The second one covers the first portion of your post. Good thing I have your blog on rss feed so I can read the whole thing. But I wish I knew enough about this type of thing to know why my computers do that!

    Blessings.

    • SarahMae says:

Double-header fix: Click on “Compatibility View” (an icon right after the URL that looks like a piece of paper ripped in half) and that should fix it immediately. It’s an Internet Explorer (IE) issue (seriously, why are you still on IE anyway? Firefox baby!).
