The Twilight Fantasy

“The reality that will eventually hit Twi-hards is that this infatuation is its own punishment. No amount of ticket sales, Twilight addiction “fixes,” and I-Want-to-Marry-Edward-Cullen fansites will change the fact that Edward Cullen is still not human, and still not real. Mercifully, we have a God Who is.”
-Eliza, How Twilight is Re-Vamping Romance

Amen!! :)

I must admit that I am one of those that was caught up in the Twilight addiction. It is amazing how captivating the books are! After reading the books, I was still craving more. God made me realise that this was not healthy. It is not good for women to read these types of fantasies.. because it gives us a false illusion of the 'perfect man'. Satan uses all kinds of things to tempt us and to beat us down. He doesn't want our marriages to last, our eyes turned to the Lord. I pray that we as women will look to the Bible for answers and to God as our 'idol'… instead of trying to live a fantasy.

AMEN! Seriously the romance portrayed on Twilight is so FAR OF – it's more like lust than it is love.

I have never read the books but have seen both movies with my sister in law. What disturbs me most about the second one is Bella talking about "the whole in her chest" after Edward leaves and the only way that was filled was by Jacob, a boy. I think this sends a false message to all girls, young and old, that boys/ men can fill that void inside of you… when the only One that can is Him. So, I was very frustrated with this issue!
Yes, exactly!
I"ll probably see the movies some day, but the problem I had with the books and why I'm not reading them is the lust problem.

I looooove Twilight and the entire series! It was soooo much fun to read and I don't apologize for liking them and being a fan of the books and the very handsome "Edward, no human, Cullen."
I do agree with the post, but I do love my Bella, and all the rest…

Sarah Mae, I posted on this. Probably controversially so. Would love your thoughts.
I have not read the series, but I have seen both movies. I think as an adult woman, I can realize the difference between reality and fantasy. I enjoyed watching the movies and swooned over the young men portraying the "heros". The problem is that teens and young girls that don't know what is reality, they are the ones who need guidance. They are falling in love with a character from a book. The young men who play those roles on the screen are not those people in real life.

Amen to that! I have actually never been interested in this series. I'm not into what I refer to as 'hocus pocus'. I love that you were so bold as write this post! :)

At the suggestion of my daughter, who read the first two Twilight books and didn't like them at all, I finally watched the first Twilight movie and plan to see the second. I'm working on a review. The thing that disturbs me most is it's teaching young girls that this kind of obsession is what love should look like. At first I thought it was nothing more than a Buffy/Angel rehash…it's much worse.

I read the first Twilight book and realized that I couldn't read any more when I started becoming very disastisfied with my husband. I laugh about it now, but it was a real problem and required a lot of prayer and restraint (especially as many of my friends were reading all of the books and our conversations always turned to Twilight).
I totally agree with the article. And I'm sad that I let myself get wrapped up in Twilight for even a second.

Oh my. I absolutely enjoyed reading the Twilight Saga books. I'm definitely old enough to distinguish reality from fantasy. And I love my husband dearly. I wouldn't trade him for any Edward or Jacob. Don't care for sparkles much. :)
I'm also very content that my 15 year old daughter and I have an open line of communication taking place about these books and the films. She understands of course that this is a work of fiction. That our one true love is God, and the He fills the voids of emptiness and pain when we find ourselves heart broken.
I'm thankful that these stories have come along. Why? Well, it has opened the door for many many teachable moments and great conversations about love, real men, etc.
