My FTC Disclosure (And How To Make Your Own)

gavel

Here is my FTC disclosure…ready?

I will never write a review or take money for an ad from a company that I do not sincerely like.  If I do accept compensation, it is because, and only because, I would have written about them anyway (shhh…don’t tell my sponsors that!).  :)

Oh, and if someone sends me something to review and I don’t like it, instead of writing a bad review, I send the product back and don’t post it at all.

There you have it, my disclosure.

The FTC probably wants something more clear though, so very soon you will see in my header a new “disclosure” link.  That one will be all official.

If you want a disclosure policy for your blog, check out Disclosurepolicy.org – you answer around four questions and they make it for you in about 5 seconds – for free!  Easy!

I think it's another example of the cart jumping before the horse. They want to regulate it (and I do see why they might), but don't have systems in place to do so.

That said, I did like you and posted my own "disclosure" in Pattie terms, not legalese.

Thanks Sarah! I do review books and keep free copies, so I suppose I need to have a statement as well.

I really liked your disclosure for reviews. You can come and review all my worksheets one day if you like. :) That way, if you think they are good – you can say so, if you don't – no one else has to know. :) Sounds good to me. :)

  8. Mama Dweeb says:

Thank you for that link! I need a good one. I like that you don't do negative reviews and actually send the product back – that is a lot different from some moms on here…they just keep it and some even try to put a positive spin on it – yuck! Thank you for your honesty and integrity!

Thanks for posting this. It will be interesting to see how this goes during 2010 for all of us adding this to our site(s).

I think for the most part, your text will be the norm. Basically, I'm not a scammer trying to fool people, this is what I do for a living and I'm doing it honestly. Nyah! :)

Maybe the Nyah part won't hold up in court. I'm not sure I'd feel compelled to spend the money to send reviewed products back myself, but that's just me. :)
