For Those Who Say They Can't Stay Home Because They'd Be "Bored"

bored

Really?  I mean, really?

Bored?

Aside from the obvious question, “what do you think we do all day?  Nothing?  Hello!  We BLOG!”  ;)

Seriously though,

I can think of about a million things you could do if you were bored…for starters, if you only have one munchkin, how about starting a home business, writing a book, volunteering, crafting, READING (yea, miss that), etc. etc. etc….

And trust me, once you have have more than one, you won’t be bored.  I promise.

And if you are, home educate.

You will never say you are bored again.

  1. I have never understood women who say if they stay home with their kids they’d be bored. I loved being at home with my children when they were young and considered it a privilege. Homeschooling my daughters was an awesome experience for all.

I would love to track a bored stay at home mom. Seriously. I think it would be so cool to be bored at home. If only even for a day! How do they do it? Gotta go – baby waking up …

Lol! So, so, so true! As one of 8 kids, and now mommy to soon-to-be 4, I can verify that life is NEVER boring!! If anything, we’re always finding ourselves wondering how to fit more hours in a day…

I feel compelled to leave a comment today instead of just lurking! This is so like something I would have said before my daughter was born 18 months ago – and I struggle daily with the decision of giving up my career to be a SAHM for our family – but I know it is the right thing to do. Sometimes I do wonder what it would be like to be back in work, but if I am honest there were so many times that I sat at my desk with uninspiring work, or doing the same thing again, or wondering why the clock was moving so slowly – I have to remind myself that I was regularly bored at work. At least at home with my little girl no 2 days are ever the same – and I never wish the day would disappear, I’m always wondering where on earth the time went!

Yours is such an edifying place to visit – in so many ways. Prayers and blessings to you and all who you love.

  6. Oh, I just vlogged about this subject this week….sort of. It’s basically what I was trying to get at. I just don’t get how you can be bored at home, especially with kids….it just doesn’t happen.:) With 4-5 hours of sleep a night, I can truly testify that I am NEVER bored! LOL Sometimes I actually long to be bored, for just one hour….LOL. Thanks for this post!:)

  7. Misty says:

Seriously, because it’s so boring hearing your child’s funny remarks and playing in the rain with them and making play-dough monster trucks and reading little stories and rolling around on the floor in a tickle fight and baking cookies together and kissing their boo-boos when they fall down…. and falling in love with your kids each and every day a million times over.
And when you’re not busy doing that wonderful thing called being a mommy, then you can squeeze in time for household chores, cooking healthy meals, errands, a quiet cup of coffee during naptime and even blogging and reading blogs by other awesome mommies!

Who would trade in a full time job for that? Who wouldn’t?!!?!?!

SO true. People told me I’d be bored if I stayed home after my son was born. It’s been 12 years (as of tomorrow!) and I haven’t been bored yet!

FeeBeeKay – There is something to be said about “adult brain stimulation,” but that is why I suggest actively using the gifts God gives us so that we don’t run dry. Thank you for de-lurking!!! :)

  10. LaDonna says:

Bored? when? not here. I can understand if everyone were in school; like a couple of my friends. But they are also in transition because they always have worked. once they settle in, they’ll be just fine. Plus they help me with my munchkins.

  11. I’d like to add a little something to that. I homeschooled my son, but he’s now grown and gone from home. I STILL stay home…and I don’t get bored, I get busy. I am a keeper of my home. I think it’s important to remember that even when your children are no longer home, there will still be plenty of ways you can “keep a home”.
    Great post S.M. :)

  12. Susan says:

Hmmm, great post! I cannot even imagine being “bored”, but then again, we have 3 daughters whom I teach at home, so there you go! LOL!

I suppose the boredom might come with having older children who are in school…combined with having unconsecrated hands. In other words, no matter who we are or what our lot is in life we should be 100% committed to serving the Lord in whatever He has given us to do! We should have our hands kept busy with the Lord’s work. It doesn’t sound like the P31 woman has any time to be bored! She is constantly busy. Makes me tired just reading that chapter! :)

  13. Nurse Bee says:

I would never say that!! My days off are so busy!! I might be more relaxed (or not) if I wasn’t working, but not bored….

  14. Corinne says:

So very true! It’s so sad, but I really wonder what I did w/ all my free time when I had just Fynn ;) I never knew how busy I could be at home with two kids!

I am not a SAHM, but I cannot imagine that I would ever get bored at home with my daughter. I do have every other Friday off and those days are filled to the brim with activites with her! It would be amazing if I could do that everyday.

I’d love to be a SAHM. I’ve been working for the past year and a half trying to save as much as we can so when baby #2 comes, I can stay home. We thought I’d have options before baby #1, but…the economy changed, gas went up, groceries went up and our disposable income went down. :(

  19. Annita says:

I was horribly bored at work…way more than I’ve ever been at home. If I do get bored at home at least I’ve got options, at work I was stuck at my desk doing the same thing with no escape!

I quit my part time job in May. I LOVE being home! (No kiddos yet.) Before quitting I would sit bored at work and think of all the great things I could be doing at home! :) (Now I’m starting a part time job again… but just for fun and for only a couple of months.) :)

  22. Kelly says:

Um, yeah. I was FAR from bored last summer! My days with my children went by so quickly… we were ALWAYS busy doing something. It was a lot more fun than I expected.

I will say that the pace was slower than when I work outside the home. And I felt a lot less stressed too. But that’s not to say it wasn’t busy or hectic. It was just a different busy and hectic.

I’m already looking forward to next summer… and it’s only October!

  23. Kim says:

Every time I’m tempted to think I’m bored, I remember that that is the WORST thing to ever reveal! Whenever that was said around my mother, she would always find us something to do: weed pulling, baseboard scrubbing, ironing. The list was endless. The idea was to never, ever admit you were bored.

Almost as bad as praying for patience.

  24. Tiffany says:

I never thought about being a SAHM when baby #1 came along. Hubby and I were not financially stable enough for me to do so. After I had baby #2, I couldn’t bear the thought of putting him into daycare too. Sadly, here I am still working fulltime with the oldest one in school now and the youngest in daycare. I know that I wouldn’t be bored. I wouldn’t have to struggle with cleaning house and doing most of the laundry in one day. We save Sundays for God and family and try not to do chores on that day. But how great would it be to scatter the chores through the week and be with my son during the day. Funny, I would have more time for blogging, maybe.

I don’t have kids, and yet, these people could come to my house and watch me not stop moving ALL DAY. When I hit my afternoon slump and think about nap time, I get on the treadmill. And, if I have too much time on my hands (never happens), I know that I should look no further than my God, and He will have a use for it.

    Honestly!?!? Bored?!?! What is that?

I totally regret ever working outside the home. Yes, it gives us an income, but it’s a trap that I am stuck in . I don’t get to spend the time I desire to spend with my family and on my home.
