Grace & Truth, Part 2 – Grace Is Risky
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation (not guilty) for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1
Grace is risky.
It is risky because it can be taken advantage of…and it still is.
It is risky because it says, “I know who you are and I will still cover all your ick.”
It is risky because there is nothing safe in it…no comfort zones, no perfection, no black & white.
It is risky because it is a gift, and we can do what we want with it and the gift giver will never ask for it back (because He only gives it to those who ask).
God loves, love is risk, grace is risky.
Live under it…but remember, the grace gift came at a blood cost.
And the God man who shed the blood says this,
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

There is no place I'd rather be than living under His grace!
Very well put! The Christian life is all about balance! Understanding that God will love us no matter what and not following Him because if we don't He'll stop loving us, but because WE love HIM!
Very thought provoking truth.

This is sooo good, as usual Sarah Mae!
"It is risky because there is nothing safe in it…no comfort zones, no perfection, no black & white."
That is EXACTLY why I struggle with grace!
With free, limitless grace for everyone, there's no gold star for good behavior, no way to be above average. There's never a smug, comfortable feeling of accomplishment. It can seem so unfair.
It reminds me of the rich young ruler. He was probably like me and strove for perfection in everything. I think that's why Jesus responded to him the way he did– he was trying to show him that he needed grace as much as anyone.

Grace…unmerited favor…I remember being astonished at the real meaning of this word when I learned about it in a New Testament class in college. Growing up in church it was a word I heard often…and I knew it had something to do with not getting what I deserved…but that definition smacked me in the face that day as I gained a deeper awareness of it's meaning. I have favor with God because Christ gave it to me. But oh the lengths He had to go to be able to extend that grace to me…the Scriptures say he "became" sin for me. That just blows my mind…I hope I can always stand in awe of what that word means…

I just finished reading a book called God Chasers…awesome book, BTW. In the first chapter the author remarks that for every person that never knows the gospel he views it is Christ's blood being wasted (I am paraphrasing). That gave me goosebumps when I read it.
It is so important to remember, as you point out, that grace is free to us but was bought with a great cost. We have to extend grace to others so that they have the opportunity to know our Jesus too.
I am loving this series!

TRUTH is such a powerful force against long-held lies. Holding up the mirror of truth seems scary at first, until that Hand of Grace smooths away the wrinkles, heals the cuts, softens the callouses… Grace is nothing to be afraid of and yet maybe THAT is the enemy's biggest lie of all…
