I just got back from a the THSC Convention and Sally Clarkson was one of the speakers and she is remarkably normal! Like funny and has horrific, yet real and normal homeschool and life stories to share. I was struck by how wonderful she made me feel without trying to. Sometimes we think our struggles are rare and the other homeschoolers all have perfect lives. She was just a "real" person sharingg her stories and tips and insight.

I am so sickened by the things our kids are being exposed to and at such a young age. As adults we are quickly forgetting that these things were not even in existence when we were young. We had like three TV channels with Saturday morning cartoons and monthly after school specials. We grew up on shows like Family Ties and The Cosby Show. We waited impatiently each year to see movies like Charlotte's Web and The Wizard of Oz. It is so different now.... so sad, too.

I agree completely and have been thinking about this a lot lately when I came upon your quote. We do not serve a mediocre God, so we should not settle for serving with mediocrity. Quite true. Thank you for sharing.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately...we, the parents, are filling our minds with junk too. We've bought into so much of what popular culure has to say about our marriages and family life just by what we watch, read, follow. I know for me getting the twaddle out of my kids lifes is going to have to start with getting the twaddle out of my own life and our home.

Yes! Yes! Although I love pop-culture art and all kinds of silly poetry, I want my daughter to experience "excellent" art, music and poetry. I am trying to figure out ways to take my active and happily loud daughter to an art museum sometime soon.

I wish museums has programs for very young children. Most seem to start at ages 5-7.

This is a qreat quote, and a great reminder to not underestimate our children's ability to appreciate beauty.

We don't watch TV and limit what DVD's we watch. It's so true how they try to just dumb down our kids minds with the garbage.
Hugs to you my friend.

My boys love Toy Story right now, but it usually Cars or Wall-E. I also got Veggie Tales:Lord of the Beans from Netflix and they have watched it about 50 times! We are reading The Usborne Children's Bible and I'm looking for a good devotional for bedtime. We read all types of books from classics to Disney stories. We love going to the library and I love buying books! They don't watch a lot of tv because most of it is junk. But Little Einsteins and Backyardigans are ones they really enjoy.
