Preschool Home Education Schedule

“Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.” Charlotte Mason
“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Last week I shared with you my general daily schedule; today I offer you our home education schedule. I am implementing the Charlotte Mason (“masterly inactivity,” atmosphere, discipline, life) and Classical (teaching children how to think) methods/philosophies. All of the below “subjects” are done in the spirit of living. We are not trying to copy a school day formula, even though it looks like it on “paper.” I do, however, want to come up with a snazzy name for our home education “school” (my husband says to call it the school of hard knocks {snort!}). I also meet with some friends one day a week who have kiddos my kiddos ages and we “co-op” as our children learn biblical principles together (see, I “socialize” my babes!).

And thanks to the recommendation from Heather, I will probably be ordering from Thy Word Creations where they put whole chapters of the bible to music! Thanks Heather!
On another note, I have some exciting things for you this week! Stay tuned…

Looks like we're doing many of the same things. I really like the way you're doing your circle time. I need to work in calendar during that and I've been considering adding the pledge as well.

My kids are 8, 5, 2, 1 and we made lots of changes this year, but one was the pledges. I think if they are doing the pledge to the US flag, then they should do the pledge to the Bible and the Christian flag. My kids love the pledges!
Also, just reading your post I was thinking you might like to check into My Father's World, if you have not already.

Great post! Looks like you are doing a schedule very similar to our family. Iv not heard of the Charlotte Mason Method before, but it looks like the method we already use. I'll have to read more about it.
Love the site! Have a blessed day:-)

Hi Sarah Mae,
My name is Carin and I have just recently started following your blog, I really enjoy it.
I wanted to let you know that when I was home schooling my kids I also loved and followed the Charlotte Mason philosophy and my curriculum came from Ambleside online. They ladies overthere are hard working, dedicated to a free curriculum that lives up to the legacy of Miss Mason and will fully educate your children. Absolutely wonderful!
Happy homeschooling :-)
Blessings,
Carin
You have fun things planned. This is our 13th year of hs'ing. My oldest is at her first dual enrollment class at community college this morning. She's a senior in high school this year. We had some really long days, but the years have flown by.
We started with a light schedule last week and this week we'll be doing full schedule with everyone. Praying for a good school year.

This is great! My boys are almost 2 and almost 4. I love to take a peek at someone else's day. What did moms of preschoolers do before the internet? :)

This looks great! I really need to start organizing our time for the fall, otherwise I'll just be floating long without a clue… And I've got an almost-4yo and an almost-2yo… so I'll be working right along with you!
Nice! Thanks for the list of resources… I'll be checking into those! I'm intrigued by Charlotte Masen but haven't read much. I think you just put it on my "to do" list.
A friend recommended "Seeds Family Worship" to me – such neat Scripture songs!
Also, for those who need to get a calendar time going, Dollar Tree has some nice calendar sets right now! :)

We pull off "rotten genius" well, no? LOL, Do you think any one will figure it out? It might become too obvious…I hope not, but I can see it happening. :.{

I LOVE looking at everyone's homeschool schedules. We school year-round so there is no new schedule for us. However I am getting great ideas for upcoming needs for school subjects!

Tis getting to be that time of year, where the school schedules are forming! I love the idea of doing the zones daily, because really, a month is too long to wait to give a zone attention. :) Good thinking!
I've thought about getting involved in a co-op or some sort of homeschooling group, but with my kiddo's nap schedules, it's very difficult. I may have to start my own! :-/ We'll see how things go, but I definitely want some more interaction for my children.
You have a great plan! It's funny, we are both doing the Charlotte Mason/Classical approach! That's the way Tapestry of Grace works. It's a beautiful rhythm and I just love it!
Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us this week!

My children used to be concerned when they'd have to fill out a form that asked them the name of their school. We had to come up with something! We called it The Sometimes Boring Boarding School. They had so much fun writing that in!

This was so much fun to read, Sarah! I love that how you implement Charlotte Mason's philosophy into your homeschooling! Blessings!

I love that you have PE and intentional play. What a great mix you have of structured and unstructured time Bravo!

My daughter is starting kindergarten this year at a school that follows Charlotte Mason's principles. I love the concept. We can't wait for her to start…we kindof wish we were going too!
I just happened upon your blog (I think through Simple Mom) and I have to say your schedules are impressive. One question….when do you find time for grocery shopping/errands/dance class/whatever during your daily routine?
Becky, I am flexibly scheduled, meaning that if I have an errand to run we'll just do it instead of free play (to the babes, errands are free play!). They are not in dance or anything right now, but that will most likely be in the evenings anyway. I like to do my grocery shopping on the weekend when my husband can watch the kiddos. :)
thanks for sharing.. i am still deciding whether to push through with homeschooling for next school year (that starts june for us) my little girl is now 5 years old and i have a 2 year old son… i really am so encouraged by your site..

My heart is leaping. I just found your blog through in-courage, and I'm so excited to find someone else planning a pre school, CM program. I was kind of at a loss for what our day might look like, though I do know what I want the kids to learn. My kids are the same age as yours and your post was tremendously helpful to me. Thankyou!
p.s. I'm considering joining your 5:16 club, I'm afraid of failure, thus the considering aspect. Thanks for being out here in blogger land.
