This post about priorities and the current post (about a mom who is feeling like a failure as a housekeeper) really hit home to me!
I worked at Ernst & Young as an auditor before children, always planning that in my 30's I would have children and stay at home. But wow! the transition to stay-at-home mom was so much more of a challenge than I ever dreamed!
First of all, I was not very organized in my housekeeping. I worked long hours and often traveled out of town for work. So cleaning was often a major Saturday project, every couple of weeks, rather than a little bit each day. We ate out a lot, and our grocery budget was high to accommodate my crazy work schedule. Although I knew how to do all the individual tasks (cleaning a bathroom, mopping floors, frugal shopping, preparing meals), putting it all together while adjusting to a new baby with four months of projectile vomiting was a much bigger adjustment than I could have imagined.
Secondly, we faced several life changes that increased the challenge to "become" a "homemaker." The first year I left Ernst & Young, my husband lost his job twice due to "downsizings," and as a result, we moved 3 times in the first 18 months I was "home." His job changes, several moves, and four pregnancies in the past five years (three including bedrest and one NICU baby) have only complicated my attempts to "get organized" and scheduled around the house! Sometimes I have felt discouragement or even despair.
I am currently on bedrest again, due in July, wondering how (in the world!) I will ever get organized as a housekeeper/homemaker, when I struggle with it, even when I am not on bedrest. The reminders you gave are true: our value, our worth is in Christ alone. We serve Him first and foremost, within the trials or challenges that He brings into our lives. He promises to give us strength for the battles we face.
You are encouraging me to stick it out, even on bedrest. Do the next thing that God has in front of me. . . thank you.

I love this CD. It is life-changing. We just don't hear the things that are said on it from many other sources - things that need to be said.I haven't listened to it in its entirety for a few years. I think I will get it out and listen to it again! Tomorrow though - we are going out for Jocelyn's birthday tonight!Speaking of which - TIME FLIES SO FAST - you really do need to make the most of it! soon your Littles will be 18, and you will wonder where all that time went!Have a great weekend!blessings~

I just ordered my CD and am counting the days till its arrival. I've had a growing sense of worry about the upcoming summer - my first at home with my boys. I have many worries about this (read: almost paralyzed with fear) and my greatest concern is scheduling, routines and fitting in everything I want to do. I think this will really get me off on the right foot! Thank you!

Lady-in-the-Making,The tips on the CD will still be helpful, although you are right, it is aimed towards homemakers. I don't want to be trite, but I will say that if you desire to stay home, keep praying and hoping and working towards it! Your heart is already there and the Lord knows it. Persevere friend...you have a cheerleader right here! :)

I'm sure this is a hypersensitive reaction on my part but I just wanted to share this....This is an excerpt from the description for the 24 Hour CD:Do you find there just aren’t enough hours in a day? Many home-educating mothers wind up frustrated or burned out because there simply isn’t enough time for everything. Sadly, some of us aren't home-educating mothers or homemakers. We DESIRE to be, but for various reasons, we cannot. :(
